Lake View Musical Society (LVMS) is a not-for-profit group that was founded in 1895. The purpose was, and still is, to develop musical talent and stimulate musical and artistic interest in Chicago. Initially the members were all musicians who performed for each other. Over the years the society began to include non-performing, music-loving members. In recent years the focus has expanded further, providing a venue for emerging area musicians.
Additionally, we provide scholarships and other financial aid to students and music schools in the Chicago area.
In our 2016-2017 season we made donations to Roosevelt University's College of Performing Arts, The People's Music School, Merit School of Music, Cedille Records, and De Paul University Music School.
Our emphasis is on classical music, but there can be surprises!
We meet eight times a year on the second Tuesday of the month - October through December and February through June. Concerts take place at 1 PM at the New Music School on the 6th floor of the 900 North Michigan (Bloomingdale’s) Building. Each concert lasts for one hour. Your first one is free! And then we encourage you to become a member.
